Oh! Which reminds me. Yeah, there's a lot about ecology and the planet, which is why I think you may enjoy parts of it. In that sense, your book has some similarities. Herbert doesn't focus so much on overpopulation though (but it is there), moreso humanity abusing the planet in general. You learn in the prequels that Dune used to be a paradise and it was just torn apart by greed and abuse. Then in the later books, Paul's son Leto manages to make it into a paradise again, but all the sandworms die (except Leto) and spice slows to a halt. So there's this thing about don't mess with the planet at ALL, because nature is delicate and it should be respected. Manipulating the planet to serve the whims of humanity causes humanity's near-end.
