Ooooh, I remember reading something in the FAQs about that but couldn't find it right off, so I went back through them again and discovered I was wrong about the word limit. You have to upload a MINIMUM of 10,000 words but you're free to upload your whole novel if you like, too. Yayzors! That means if I ever do find a book worth reading I can finish the damn thing. Wooties! The relevant FAQs about exclusive print rights and such are here. I shouldn't think there would be a problem, and a thinking publisher might even say, "Ah, I see your manuscript scored high in the rankings. It might just become a bestseller, so we'll be happy to take a risk on publishing your debut novel." But if you're still concerned about it, then I'd just upload the minimum if I were you. That way you can say that only an excerpt was published.
I'm going to work on my bio first--I want to sound shmaht without being sanctimonious. It's surprisingly hard.
Hee! I didn't even think about a bio. Doh! I was too busy thinking about what to say about my book, and that's hard enough. Waaaaaah! But I'm going to go over to the real HarperCollins site and see how their professional authors do it, and then come up with something that mimics theirs. Likewise on a book summary.
You can do compilations, right? That counts as a novel? *checks somewhere*
I know I saw one when I was reading through the summaries so someone else is getting away with it. Why not you? Hee!
