Lily was shaking her head, unable to come up with a reply. But she didn't want to even be friends with James, much less marry him. "I'm fine," she said shakily to Severus, though she didn't sound fine.
Harry could see that he had disturbed her quite a bit. Although he had hoped for years to meet his mum, perhaps these were not the right circumstances. He could at least hope for his dad to show at the party. But no, this wasn't right. This might be the only chance in his entire life that he would have to speak to his mother in person. And Snape was ruining it, just by standing there with that stupid look on his face. Harry pursed his lips and gripped his wand tightly, with a fist. "You just stay away from her, then," he said in a low growl to Snape.
Lily was taken aback. Still too shocked to say a word, she looked from Harry to Severus, more nervous than she had ever been in her life.
