"I'm sorry, Clarice, that at this moment we have no time for pleasantries. Alas, your phone's battery is going to die rather quickly. I have another phone for you, one with a longer life."
As if on cue, the sound of a second phone reverberated through the room. "Quickly now, Clarice, find the other phone, if you wish to talk to me. I'm sure you do, don't you?" His voice was confident. He knew that she did want to find him, very badly. And he further knew that he could not allow her the use of her own phone, which could undoubtedly be traced and tracked, which would not do at all.
"Hurry now, Clarice, the other phone is on the charger. You see, I realize that although you have lost the right to discharge your duties, you have not lost the desire to do so, and that therefore you would allow your own phone to be traced. I will swiftly disconnect, then speed dial you back. YOu'll have three seconds with which to exchange the battery in your phone for the one in your charger. I know you can do that, Clarice, surely, it takes less time than that to change the clip on a .45.If you've succeeded in your task in the allotted time - wonderful. If not? Well maybe some other time. Are you ready?"
He waited just long enough for her yes, then said, "Go," and hung up.
