Phoning the bureau to tell them Lecter had been kidnapped did exactly what Clarice had expected: nothing good. They conducted a search of Verger's home but came up with nothing. This only got her into more trouble.
There was only one thing left for her to do - go to Verger's Estate herself and manage the bastards alone. Angry as hell, she got into her Mustang and sped off, sick of the way she was being treated. She was beginning to feel like an hysteric. Hannibal's words about hurting them rang in her head, and for a moment she wished he had hurt them. But only for a moment. Clarice could not allow herself to think those thoughts for very long.

Clarice calmed down significantly during the lengthy drive to Verger's home. She knew better than to drive very close to the mansion (Verger's impeccable hearing would have immediately picked up the sound of her Mustang). Stopping the car just inside the gates, she stepped out and half-jogged further into the property, searching for the van that the thugs had driven. Clarice had a feeling Hannibal would be kept in there, just in case any other unexpected visitors came into the home, and guarded by at least one of the men.
Spotting the van, she ducked down to hide in some bushes to make sure nobody was around. She could not see anybody inside the vehicle. Clarice was surprised that nobody was standing outside it (if indeed Hannibal was being kept in there). Taking a deep breath, she gripped her gun tightly and crept to the van.
