Who: Jesse Weaver & Kitty Davenport
What: Weekend getaway begins here
When: 9th August
Where: Big Bear Lake
Rating: Low
Warnings: n/a
To say that this trip to Big Bear Lake had not been a spur of the moment spontaneous decision by Jesse was something of an understatement. He honestly would have been fucked had Kitty turned around and told him that she couldn't go considering he'd booked the room already, arranged for it to be pimped out with rose petals and champagne, and he'd also got them some activities booked. Not many but enough so neither of them would get bored. Thankfully she hadn't foiled his plan and the pair of them had made a fun road trip up with music blasting and some really questionable karaoke going on but it was just them so it didn't even matter.
He parked the car, rummaged out their bags, and then turned to wait for Kitty to fall in step beside him before they headed inside.
They stopped off at the desk first, to check in and collect their room key, the room key which Jesse passed off to Kitty as she needed to go in first because if she didn't then it would definitely ruin the surprise that was waiting.
It was a good thing that Jesse had given Kitty the room key, considering he'd been insistent on carrying up her bags. It'd have just delayed them getting into the hotel room if he'd had to put everything down and rummage out the from where he inevitably would have put it into the pockets of his jeans that - even though she knew better - she was pretty sure went down to his knees because he could fit so much stuff into them.
She did wonder why he was hanging back, and she wondered why the receptionist had given Jesse a knowing smile when the key was handed over to them, and as she opened the door the scent of the loose rose petals caught her attention seconds before the actual room itself did. The large bed was littered with rose petals, as was the floor around it, leading in a path to the door. Resting on a tray on the bed was a bucket with a bottle of champagne in it and the towels were shaped like swans, which was very cute.
She walked in slowly, taking in the LED candles that were on some of the surfaces and felt a hammering in her chest that rivalled her confusion as to what was going on.
Had she missed an anniversary? She hadn't missed her birthday, or his, she knew that. What was the occasion? God, what had she missed? She turned the room key over in her fingers and moved further into the room so Jesse could come in and shut the door.
"It's beautiful," she told him, "but... did I miss something?"
"What? No." Jesse shook his head as he closed the door with his foot and dropped the bags on the ground near the bed. "You haven't missed anything. I just thought it would be nice, to uh, you know get away and for you to be treated to something nice and romantic."
He offered her a bashful smile and stepped forward to loop his arms around her, tugging her back until her back was pressed against his chest, a kiss being dropped on the side of her neck.
"Surprised?"
Kitty leaned back as Jesse's arms came around her waist and tugged her closer. She tipped her head to the side a little when she felt his head dropping and she just let him hold her weight up, eyes closing for a moment as she cherished the sensation of being held. Of being held by Jesse. For a while, back then, she'd worried that they'd never recover from what was going on, that she'd lose him.
"I am," she admitted with a little smile, fingers finding Jesse's wrists and squeezing softly. "But in a good way. This is amazing. Thank you." She turned her head and kissed the underside of his jaw, rocking from side to side a little in his arms. "This is really nice, did you already have this planned when you asked me?"
"Good," Jesse murmured softly as he nudged her temple with his nose, a further kiss being pressed there as he felt tension melt off him when Kitty admitted she was surprised and seemed to like what he'd planned.
He tightened his arms around her and chuckled.
"Yeah, I had. I would have been totally screwed if you'd told me you couldn't come."
Kitty hummed, reaching up with one hand to thread her fingers through Jesse's hair to keep him close. "You're such a romantic," she teased, with her smile audible in her voice. "I'm so lucky."
Turning in his arms, hand dropping out of his hair only briefly before her fingers wound back into the strands, she tugged him down into a chaste kiss.
"I really am," she murmured, nudging his nose with hers.
Jesse smiled as Kitty turned in his arms and proceeded to put both her hands in his hair and he totally didn't keen into the touch. No, not him. Never. Pffft. "Nah," he said with a shake of his head as he dropped another kiss on her mouth. "Pretty sure I'm the lucky one."
It was strange how easy the transition from friends to lovers had been and it seemed all that time worrying had been for nothing.
"I'm not the one that planned a spontaneous romantic getaway," Kitty pointed out, nudging his nose again affectionately. "You're not gonna win this argument."
Her thumbs brushed the skin underneath his ear before she dragged her nails lightly along his scalp, fingers hooking at the back of his neck.
"What've you planned for the next few days?" she asked, "I'm guessing it's all planned out?"
Jesse rolled his eyes affectionately. "Okay, okay, I concede. This time." His lips tugged into a slow broad grin a moment later.
Her nails were distracting, did she realise that? Probably not, but he wasn't about to say something and run the risk that she'd stop.
"Weeeell, not everything is planned out. I mean I do have a couple activities in mind but I've also left time so if we wanna do nothing then we can totally do that."
Since Jesse said nothing, Kitty didn't stop, just kept moving her fingers through his hair, lips curled up in a soft smile as she looked at him. "Well, it'll be a challenge for me to do nothing," she pointed out, "but it wouldn't be a relaxing romantic getaway if we didn't at least have one morning where we took advantage of a lazy lie-in, right?"
"Totally," Jesse said with a nod of his head as he leaned in and stole another kiss. "Suppose we should make ourselves at home because this is our home away from home for the next couple days."
He did wonder if he'd be able to keep Kitty from getting up early to get started on the day.
"Which involves breaking down the swan towel, huh," Kitty said with an exaggerated sigh. "Shame, it's cute."
She leaned up and bumped her nose against Jesse's before detangling herself and walking over to the bed, picking up the swan towel carefully and placing it on the overstuffed armchair in the corner of the bedroom area. The suite was open-plan and much larger than she had thought it needed to be but for a long weekend away it was perfect. She dreaded to think how much it had cost him.
Moving the champagne, she lifted her eyebrow and then sat down on the edge of the bed, legs crossed at the ankle before she flopped backwards onto the soft sheets, arms stretched above her head.
"Jesse this bed is so comfortable, oh my God."
Jesse chuckled as Kitty made herself thoroughly comfortable on the bed before he wandered over to crack open the champagne because honestly it would just be rude to not do that. They'd left it there for them after all. Glasses included.
He filled a glass and offered it to Kitty from her flopped position on the bed.
"To a great weekend," Jesse said in a mock toast.
Kitty groaned as she had to sit up from where she'd laid back, stray rose petals in her hair, but she reached out with a smile and took the offered glass, echoing the mock toast with a nod of her head.
"To a great weekend."
Jesse smiled slowly and eased onto the bed beside Kitty before he reached up to lightly pick out the rose petals in her hair, a chuckle escaping him as he did so. "Looks like you and the rose petals are getting along."
They did look pretty on the bed but were in hindsight a bit of a pain.
Kitty snorted, leaning to the side to rest her head on Jesse's shoulder. She'd taken a sip of the champagne but it tasted like bubbles; she wasn't entirely sure why people liked it.
"Never met a rose petal I didn't get along with," she teased, "this really is beautiful, Jesse. Thank you."
Jesse's lips slid into a slow smile as Kitty cuddled up to him and she said just how much she liked the surprise. He'd been really nervous because it wasn't like he'd ever done this before. Hadn't wanted to, not with the people he'd been casually seeing, but this was Kitty she deserved nice things.
"My pleasure," he assured her softly.
