Devon was already starting to feel the grip. He had nearly gone ahead with the offer sooner when Violet had told him about it. She had batted her lashes at him and told him about the pack, probing where he was staying and if he was looking to join. He just could not lie to her and if he looked too long at her baby blues, he’d be a goner for sure.
“Or to be alone.” The look the other man had given Devon puzzled him. He couldn’t tell what Bren was thinking, but a big farmhouse outside of town to run around in……please god, don’t let it be about what Devon hoped it wasn’t about. If it was, it was an awkward way to end a conversation.
“Oh, please don’t let her do that,” he said quickly, unable to hide the alarm from his voice. “Not with hunters getting bold like this. I’ll come, I promise. Give me a day or so to gather all my odds and ends and I’ll make the trip myself.”
