Devon gave him a clipped nod. He hadn’t known her very well outside of the few minutes he spent in her shop, loading up orders. In fact, what he knew was just her name, but Bren seemed to have a clearer idea of who she was and how she operated.
“My apologies,” he said sincerely, “I didn’t know she had already targeted your pack. Actually, Violet hadn’t mentioned it at first, but I figured you’d deserve the heads up.” He didn’t like the idea that Elaine was already eliminating pack members, safety was a concern and he was starting to wonder if he had it better in Canada.
Bren was leveling with him, which he appreciated, but the offer still made him commitment phobic. To tie himself to the pack would mean he’d be on guard for all their lives as well. “I do appreciate the offer, but if she’s already targeting your pack and she’s already got the tail on me, why would I want to endanger you folks further?” Devon gazed hard at him, wishing they’d met under better circumstances. “She’s probably mighty pissed I took her weapon.”
