Rachel was glad that Trey's birthday only came once a year. She as finding it a bit difficult to sit in one position for any length of time, which was necessary when she had work to do. Her kind didn't get sore or tired very easily, and it had been her bright idea to keep Trey in his room all day for his birthday and not let anyone near him. She was paying for it a little, but the aches were entirely worth it. If anyone said anything within her hearing or even giggled too loudly they were getting punched dead in the face, however!
She had gotten up to get another cup of coffee only to discover that she'd emptied the pot and hadn't started a new one. She sighed at herself as she slid the reading glasses off her nose and growled. "Idiot woman." Fine. She'd settle for a Diet Coke while she waited for the fresh pot.
The knock on her door turned her around mid-sip which she almost choked on when she saw who it was. Finally! A bright smile came to her face as she crossed the room towards Dan. The smile might be a surprise to him since the Rachel that had left Texas had been deeply mourning Zach, her mate, but a lot of things had changed since Dan last saw them.
"Dan! We were beginning to wonder if we were going to have to send someone back for you."
