Jo was doing an okay job holding herself together right up until Grace put her hands on her shoulder. She managed a broken laugh when she told her about torturing her younger brother for information, but as soon as she told her about talking to her mom a few tears slipped past her guard. The worst came when Grace hugged her and apologized for what happened to her. When that happened the dam inside her broke and all the tears and pain she'd kept bottle up came rushing to the surface.
She had no idea how long she stood there, clinging to Grace like she was a lifeboat in the ocean of chaos that was her emotions. She had to admit that it felt good though, to let her feelings out and her best friend in. Pulling back, she wiped her hand across her face. "Sorry about that," she said sheepishly, her voice thick. "Did not mean for that to happen," she added with a sniffle.
