Unlike the tall, dark, mysterious, brooding, looming, and practically undressed (all adjectives she would come up with later) stranger in front of her, Mikey didn't mind talking to people she didn't know one bit. After all, most of the time it was part of her "job," a word which her parents would use very lightly. Either way, she liked to think her stranger-talking-skills were pretty much up to par with most people's people-talking-skills, those of which she was still in the process of learning.
And she didn't mind the thickness of the coffee or the ultra extra bitterness that came with it. Sure, like any girl, she preferred a proper back cafe blend to this, but what would do would do. Besides, the extra grounds just added more of a caffeine kick that had her marching over to the other occupant of the lounge and plopping down in front of him. Like him, she was still mostly sporting pajamas, though she had the decency to pull on gray sweatpants over her underwear. That was at least a blessing, as she was pretty sure she could get arrested for that in this country.
"I have a philosophy about coffee," she told him for no other reason than something to say as she bit back a yawn.
Mikey leaned back in her chair, turning around so that she could stretch out toward the little plastic container to go ahead and pick out the last piece of cinnamon bread. It wasn't potato bread with fried tomatoes (her mother's specialty), but it would do. She took a bite and chewed for a moment before continuing, realizing that she had sort of just left him hanging (as if he actually wanted to hear).
"I have a philosophy about coffee," she repeated. "If it's not poisonous and it's caffeinated and my mother didn't make it, it's probably good." She blinked and then made a face at him as his face registered in her head. For a full second, she thought she was talking to a time traveling version of her grandfather before she realized that the eyes were all wrong and the way the skin crinkled around the mouth... She tilted her head like a dog. "Do I know you?"
