Reed couldn't even say anything; he just gaped. He noticed that Jim had now walked up behind his father, and he threw almost terrified glances between Jim and Lyddia.
At that exact moment the sidedoor opened and Selene walked through, loaded up with shopping bags. She briefly glanced at the two boys and turned away to put her shopping bags up. Laughing, she started to unpack them. "Geez, don't you two get enough of each other in your room?"
In some detatched part of Reed's mind he acknowledged that it wasn't Selene's fault. She'd been so weighed down with groceries that se hadn't noticed the silent party standing in the corner. All she had seen was Reed and Emerson in a tight embrace.
It was like all hell broke loose. Reed's mother let out a wail of protest and raised her hand as if to strike at someone, while Lyddia jumped in front of her and tried to stop her progress forward. His father turned on Jim and started yelling about the 'un-Godly' practises his family kept, and Jim yelled right back at him about being a homophobic bastard. Selene had finally clued in and was standing there, her expression turning from horror to anger. She was about to open her mouth and start yelling too, when Reed finally managed to get movement back in his limbs and walked towards her, dragging Emerson with him. He shackled his hand around Selene's wrist and pulled them all back against the counter, staring at the fight that was unfolding with dread.
