The anxious look on his face was so adorable that Selene giggled and Reed couldn't help leaning forward and kissing him briefly on the lips. "Would I take you somewhere dangerous? No, calling shotgun is like.. slang. It basically means you get the front seat." He closed the passenger side door and moved to stand next to Emerson, looking at the car with him. "The car has 5 seats, right? Besides the driver, only 4 seats are open. The passenger seat is the most coveted. You get more leg space, more room, better view..." he trailed off, pointing at the features. "If you're in the back, you're squished with two other people, and it's really not that comfortable. To decide who gets the passenger seat, muggle teenagers usually 'call shotgun' and whoever calls it first gets to 'ride shotgun'."
He glanced nervously at Selene, feeling like a bit of an idiot for making it all so detailed, but he knew Emerson would prefer the long version to him saying it wasn't a weapon. Selene shook her head in amusement and continued for Reed. "A shotgun is a muggle weapon, Emerson. It comes from a time when muggles rode in horse drawn wagons. The driver would be preoccupied with the horses, so the person sitting next to him would hold a shotgun, to keep an eye out for surprise attacks."
