Couple of Kooks Who: River + Oliver When: 23 June 2015 Where: LeBeau Estate, London Rating: Sickening sweetness and heavy subjects within. Status: Complete
The song playing over custom install wireless speaker system wasn't a tune familiar to Oliver's ears. Big goofy Dumbo flaps listened intently to the new melody, absorbing lyric and bouncy beat surely as his eyes observed the scene playing out in the kitchen before him. Just as foreign as 1970's pop-synth, two men embraced, dancing about tiled floor clearly unaware kooky behaviour was being watched by the boy standing in the doorway.
Rare sight, indeed, Remy LeBeau without fortress walls erected about him, what made Oliver stop and stare altogether, in fact. Task of retrieving another bowl of popcorn for the next Bond film Miles currently queued in the Blue-Ray forgotten in favour of secret observation.
Oliver had watched his parents dance around the kitchen while cooking dinner a hundred times, more, countless, just another childhood memory vivid as Christmas mornings and weekends flying about the back garden on a little toy broom. To see it unexpectedly here, though, Oli in place of their father, Remy smiling just as wide as mum but far more suited to the couple hit unexpectedly. It was like watching a movie. Film's soundtrack perfectly matched to the couple laughing and twirling, so caught up in one another an entire theatre of patrons could not break their concentration.
Will you stay in our lovers' story? If you stay you, won't be sorry 'cause we believe in you. Soon you'll grow, so take a chance, with a couple of kooks hung up on romancing...
Another verse and another chorus passed while Remy and Oli boogied around the counters and hob, never more than four inches apart. Beyond a dance the couple worked in unison chopping vegetables, preparing chicken with garlic and thyme for the skillet, pausing between tasks to sing a lyric, pass a plate, share a kiss. Partners in every motion, moving fluidly and enjoying themselves in privacy of the home they now shared.
And people dare to judge because they seem different... Yet as every other couple worldwide they were just two fools in love.
Oliver smiled, leaning his head against the door frame.
