Rules and Regulations 2009
It's only one more week till signups so here are the new rules for 2009:
Rules & Regulations:
Welcome to wizard_love, the Harry Potter adult fan fiction and fan art exchange community. The way this community works is very simple – you tell us your favourite pairings of Harry Potter characters (heterosexual only) and what you’d like to draw or write for someone else. We’ll give it to someone compatible, give you an assignment for something you’d like to write/draw, and voila, a swap is made. Smutty Valentine’s gifts all around! Since this is for Valentine’s Day, we’d love it people were more focused on the romantic side of things although, if you’re more about the “I hate Valentine’s Day”, feel free to let your Inner Emo Kid take over.
This year, we're going back to post fic on Livejournal as well as Insanejournal. However, all art will be posted on Insanejournal only (with links to the IJ posts on the LJ community) since the LJ policies on fan art are still a bit vague and we don't want anyone getting their accounts pulled for questionable content. Signups will be on both LJ and IJ – so if you have different names on your accounts, please let us know on the signup form.
All authors must be 18 years old or older as of February 1, 2009. No exceptions. We expect either an age statement in your signup post OR a birthdate listed in your LJ/IJ user info) and we will be checking.
All fics and artwork must be rated R or higher with the focus on heterosexual activity. Anything else will be returned to you for rewriting. If you want to write/draw slash or femmeslash, there's nothing wrong with it – but this is not the community for it. Any/all work must contain at least one male and one female participant. Homosexual relationship, threesomes, foursomes or moresomes are certainly allowable as long as the main focus is on the het relationship(s).
All fics must be at least 1000 words in length. If the story is too long to fit into one IJ post (approximately 10K words), please let us know so we can figure out a good point to split the story up. File formats must be in .doc, .txt or .rtf format only. PLEASE DO NOT SEND HTML DOCUMENTS OR THEY WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU!
Beta-readers and spellcheckers are your friends. Please make sure your pieces are spellchecked, copyedited and coded properly before turning them in. If English is not your first language, please make sure your story is beta’d by someone who is fluent in English before you send it to us. We’re very sorry, but we don’t have time to read and rewrite anyone’s stories.
Fiction must be exactly that – fiction in a story form. Please do not submit haikus, poetry, song lyrics, or interpretive dances as a submission. Art is self-explanatory (we hope). Art/stories in comic form are more than welcome.
The moderators reserve the right to return your fic or artwork to you if it doesn't meet our requirements or up to our standards. Remember, these are gifts for someone else – please turn in something that you'd be happy to receive yourself. Dashing off a poor pencil sketch on a napkin or a sloppily, unedited story the night before for someone you don’t know or completely blowing off the assignment isn’t just unfair, it’s rude and we won't tolerate it.
All gifts must be original works done for this community and its participants. Anyone caught recycling or reusing fic or art they've posted anywhere before will be banned and their submissions pulled immediately. Believe us, we will find out if you pull this sort of crap – so don't do it!
Signups will be capped at 100 participants -- assuming that many people show interest. All participants must produce a gift in order to receive one -- if you fail to turn in something as promised, you won't be allowed to participate in future. Should you turn something in and your giftee fail to do the same, we will re-gift works in order to reward everyone who followed through. We will do our best to make certain everyone gets something they asked for. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to drop out so we can reassign your recipient’s request. It’s only polite.
You need either an LJ or IJ account in order to sign up. This year we will be posting all fic on both LiveJournal and InsaneJournal and all art on InsaneJournal. All art will be linked from LJ to IJ.
Remember, this is a sekrit gift exchange so please do not post your gift anywhere else on the net or in your journal until after it's been unveiled here. It would also be polite if you didn't write a fic related to anything you've written previously. Identities of gift givers will be posted in March -- feel free to guess who did what before then!
We do our best to post the earliest submissions first or at least as soon as possible. However, we will not post a gift for someone who has not turned in their own submission and we cannot post a gift if has not been received. So even if you turn in your submission 2 weeks before deadline, this does not guarantee your gift will get posted immediately. We have no control over when people turn things in and if someone drops out, then a pinch hitter will be called in. Please do not email us with demands to know when your submission or gift will be posted, and anyone found to be wanking about this publicly will not be allowed to participate in future.
Please do not post to this community yourself. All fics/art must be sent to the moderators' gmail account -- wizard.love@gmail.com so we can do the posting for you. This will keep it all secret until further notice.
Completed art should be emailed as an attachment to wizard.love@gmail.com. We will post it to the community for you. (It would probably be smart to avoid putting in identifiable signatures on your work in order to maintain the secrecy).
When you've finished your fic, sent it in a Word file or text file as an attachment to: wizard.love@gmail.com. Do not cut/paste into the body of an email – we found out the hard way that gmail messes up the formatting and we don’t have the time to reformat anyone’s stories. Please include all html tags for formatting as well as the following header:
Title: Author (to be removed before posting): Recipient's IJ/LJ name: Rating: Pairing(s): Word Count: Warnings (if any): Authors notes (if any - please avoid mentioning betas by name as this might spoil the secret nature of the gift -- if we see them, we will take them out – we’ll put them back in once the author is revealed.
The signup form will be in the 2009 signup post. Be as specific as possible with your wants and preferences as it will help your gifter write better/more interesting stories or draw better/more interesting art. A bad example would be:
Pairings: Angelina Johnson/anyone Any kinks or special elements: Anything is fine with me. Squicks or characters/pairings you don't want: The usual
You must specify at least 3 different characters or pairings, so your benefactor can have some room to work. A good example is: I like Charlie/Tonks, Ron/Hermione, Harry/Luna or Zacharias/Parvati, light bondage (especially with dragonhide straps), spanking, chocolate/honey/whipped cream and feathers. Oh and threesomes are fine! I really don’t like teacher/students, dark fic, enemas or wall sex.
A bad example is: Write me Charlie and Tonks living a trailer in Romania where they get attacked by a dragon and fight a lot and then get so horny that they have to shag immediately even though they're all beat up and burnt.
Signups will be from November 1 –November 15, 2008 unless we fill up faster, in which case, we'll make sure to get the assignments out faster.
Participants will receive their assignments by November 22, 2008 (hopefully sooner). If for some reason you don't hear from us by then, let us know immediately!
Finished works are due by January 31, 2009.
Fics and art will be posted starting on February 7th, 2009 and then throughout the month of February into March.
If you need to drop out, please let us know as soon as possible so we can reassign your recipient to someone else. Failure to let us know will result in bad karma and banning from any future exchanges. Like other exchanges, we will be listing the names of deadbeats at the end of this year's event.
Deadlines are going to be strictly enforced this year. If you need an extension, we’re more than willing to work with you, but within reason. If it becomes too late, we may ask you to turn in what you have (to make sure you’re actually writing/producing something) or replace you entirely. Remember, this is supposed to be fun and a gift for someone else – so please be courteous.
Please remember to thank your gifter for their hard work. If there is a problem with your gift, please contact the mods immediately and we'll do our best to fix the situation. Sometimes people miss squicks or requests, so please try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Barring that, not thanking your gifter or acknowledging their hard work is just plain rude.
Feel free to contact us ragdoll or katesque, at wizard.love@gmail.com, anytime if you have questions. Rules liberally borrowed from smutty_claus with permission from r_becca. (There wasn't much room for improvement so we're going with the best)
