What: a bit of a confrontation

Bored was not a good thing for Lavender. The day of classes was pretty lack luster, dinner was a quiet affair where she mostly ate just vegetables and some water. She spoke with some of her friends. Then went back to the dorms where she quickly finished her Charms essay. Honestly she didn't know what they were thinking giving homework on the first day?
Stretched out on her bed, Lavender was just putting the finishing touches on her essay when her stomach started growling. Having not eaten much earlier, she was in definite need of some food. She glanced over at her nightstand where a copy of last weeks gossip rag lay, already partly thumbed through. She shrugged as she got off the bed and tucked it in her robes. It was better than nothing, until the next issue arrived. She pulled her hair back and grabbed her wand then headed out of the tower and down to the kitchens.
A short time later, Lavender was happily seated at one of the tables eating mashed potatoes covered in gravy and had a rather impressive looking sundae seated next to it that she had yet to touch. She was happily engrossed in her magazine, reading about Kirley Duke's lastest escapades with some beautiful but relatively unknown model and had no idea that anyone else had entered the kitchens other than the usual bustling of house elves.

Who: Ron and Hermione
When: September 2nd, 1997.
Where: Gryffindor common room after classes.
Summary: Ron is preparing for the year the way he sees fit.

Finally, Ron thought. Classes were over for the day and he had stopped off without his friends into one of the restrooms before heading back alone to the Gryffindor Common room. The last things on Ron's mind was homework, prefect duties or responsibilities altogether. The year was new, fresh and supposedly worry free. No He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named threats, no Death Eaters wandering around the school or outside of it and certainly nothing but a normal life for him and his two best friends. Ron wondered if it was going to be weird for Harry to settle into a life without having to wonder if someone or something was going to try and kill him every few moments. Still, a chance to just think about school work and school related things did have Ron worrying a little bit. He'd have no major excuse now to put off studying and he liked having that ability.
Still, he figured he'd just soar through the year as he always had - barely. With the help that he counted on from Harry and Hermione, he knew he had a fighting chance. He wanted to do well and knew he had to. He wanted to follow Harry into the world of Auror training. Top marks were crucial for that to happen. But, it was only the first day and Ron pushed those worries from his mind and ran up to the boys dormitories, taking the stairs two steps at a time. It was easier to do so and faster now that his legs had grown even longer since his last birthday. He headed straight to his bed and pulled open his trunk, pulling out a bag of tricks and games to mess around with in the common room. Half of the products were from his brother's joke shop, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
He was still shocked he got his screaming yo-yo past Filch and pulled it out of his bag and made his way back down to the common room. He said hello as he passed a few people and frowned slightly when he didn't see Harry or Hermione anywhere. He pulled out his yo-yo and started to play with it, ignoring the glares he got about the noise. He noted a few first years staring at him from the corner of the room, and he wondered if it was too soon for him to offer them some Ton-Tongue Toffees or something, but decided against it. The last thing he wanted at the moment was Hermione to use her Head girl power to take them away - and on the first day.
