"I'm in love with Jonas," Cho said, straightening her shoulders the way she had seen Quinn do whenever he addressed his parents. "But I want to make sure I'm marrying him because I love him and not because he's the only one that will marry me."
Bernadette studied her, filing each movement and every expression that flickered across her face into her mind. Finally she nodded once, handing the contract back to Cho. "Wise. Does he know about the contract?"
"Jonas?"
"Either of them," Bernadette responded, her hands returning to their place in front of her.
"Jonas knows. I haven't told anyone else," Cho said. "That's why he agreed to marry me so quickly."
"And what does he think? Of the contract."
"I don't know. He told me not to worry about it, and we don't discuss it anymore," Cho said.
"If this, the contract, weren't an issue... would you still have accepted the proposal?" she asked, choosing her words carefully.
"If this contract weren't an issue, he wouldn't have proposed. Not yet. I think, if this contract weren't an issue, I would've fallen for him moreso. It complicated things too much."
Bernadette nodded, casting a glance at the purse. "Go see Havard. But don't get your hopes up, my dear. These things, they don't always have the results you'd expect."
