Grinning, Cho waved Hannah over. In an excited whisper, she said, "You have to see this girl's blue eyes. They're beautiful and so bright."
Hannah went over and stood next to Cho, her hand resting on the other girl's shoulder as she bent in to look at the baby. Her face broke into a grin to match Cho's. "Oh, you're right! They're like Pippa's. What's her name?"
"Amelia," Cho replied, not taking her eyes back off of the baby. "You can pick her up if you'd like. You were shot with a sanitizing charm the moment you opened the door, so you're safe."
"Oh, that's what that was," Hannah said, turning her hands back and forth a couple of times before scooping up the baby in her arms. "Hi Amelia," she said, her voice automatically rising to a higher, softer tone. Hannah smiled down at the baby blinking up at her, and then closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. "I just love the way they smell, don't you? Well, most of the time..."
Cho smiled in response and reached to stroke Amelia's cheek. "I like to pretend they're really mine, even the blonde ones."
Hannah laughed quietly, so as not to wake any of the sleeping babies. "There's always a chance you could have a blonde one, marrying an Abbott," she said, holding Amelia a little closer to her. She could feel the tension melting from her, and a glow rising to her cheeks. "Based on the rest of the family, if I ever get to have children, they'll probably look like little copies of Ben and me, no matter who else is in the equation."
"There's no blonde in my gene pool," Cho said, giving Hannah a confused look. "Maybe light eyes, if you look back far enough."
"I was joking," Hannah said, laughing again. "It's sort of a family joke, you know? The dominant blond gene. It's actually not the Abbott genes that are blonde even. Well, not back before my grandma became an Abbott. Dark hair and light eyes would be really pretty, though. How many would you want? And can I come and play with them?"
"Two. A boy and a girl, maybe more. I've always wanted twins, but I probably shouldn't count on that either. And, of course, you can play with them and invite them over. Quinn's already been warned that he's changing diapers."
"Good," she said, and her smile faltered for just a moment, but returned as she focused on the baby's blue, blue eyes again. "I'll make sure he doesn't teach them any awful words or let them get into the sugar like Noella."
"Thanks Hannah, and I won't teach yours any bad words either."
