"Well you wouldn't be a historical pirate, but a future pirate," he said with a quirky smile. "Just the semantics of the word choice..." Spencer trailed off, and cleared his throat with a quick ahem. "Uh, never mind. Honorary pirate it is, though to be honest you don't seem very vicious at all to hold the title of pirate. You know, technically speaking, they were guilty of crimes at sea. Though, truth be told, your attitude thus far suggests that you might have been involved in crime at one time in your life." Even when he wasn't working Spencer couldn't help but profile the people around him. He was so ingrained in his work that it was something he lived and breathed every day.
Her tale of tortuous games piqued Spencer's interest, but only from the point of view of a profiler. It was always interesting to hear of an UnSub that removed him, or herself, from the torture, and proceeded to make the victims to do themselves, or to another victim for the purposes of survival. It still, no doubt, gave the UnSub a sense of power and authority over the victims, but perhaps the bigger result of such torture was the break down of the victims. Kenzi, however, did not seem broken down at all, but Reid knew it was just a defense mechanism that many victims employed.
"You're minimizing the experience an awful lot," he said to her. "Oftentimes victims of torture suffer severe post-traumatic stress; but you're cognitively distorting the effects of the experience in order to displace your feelings. Not that that's wrong, but eventually you'll have to deal with it. You know... I'm just saying. Not that you have to take my advice or anything, but I've seen plenty of these types of cases, and experienced abduction myself, so uh... yeah." He took a deep breath, and scrunched his nose a bit. "Just tryin' to be helpful."
An awkward pause filled the next few seconds before Spencer decided to try to be somewhat normal. "Oh I'm assuming that you saying we're stuck means that there have been attempts at escaping this place, and they were unsuccessful. So what's keeping us here?"
