WHO: Beth Greene and Glenn Rhee
WHAT: Catching up, talking about Maggie and walkers and Marrowood, etc.
WHEN: May 17; afternoon
WHERE: The Sleepy Hollow
RATING/STATUS: Low/In progress
The prison had only been lost a few days ago as far as Beth was concerned, but she'd still spent so much time on the run that it just wasn't in her nature anymore to sit and relax. It felt unnatural, and she jumped at every noise, ready to get up and either run or defend herself. It didn't help her comfort level that she didn't feel safe there either, even though no one had seen a single walker; no, they said they'd seen much worse, and without any real answers to her questions about this place, there was no real way for her to feel safe.
Having Daryl, Rick, Glenn, Michonne, and...her father...helped, though. Part of her still felt missing without knowing where her sister was, but she trusted those five in her group--her family--with her life, and knew that if there was a way out of this, they would figure it out. She'd help, of course, any way she could, even if that meant trying to make things better for them all while they were there, but she knew she wasn't nearly as resourceful at getting out of sticky situations like some of them were.
In the 24 hours since she'd arrived, however, most of what she'd done was shower, eat, and hug them. Especially her father. It felt like forever ago and also yesterday that he'd been killed, and while running had mostly made it easy to pretend he was still out there, escaped and trying to survive like the rest of them, she'd felt an almost overwhelming heaviness when they'd stopped. And to be honest, she still felt it, even when she was looking right at him. It made her stick very close to him, as though afraid if she turned her back, he'd become a figment of her imagination and disappear for good. She'd even asked to sleep on the floor in his room--to which he insisted she take the bed, until she told him it was too soft and she'd really be more comfortable with just a blanket on the carpet. And, well, a man of his age shouldn't be sleeping on the floor, but she'd said that with a smile, just happy that he was there for them to have that discussion at all.
Now, she was enjoying some of the processed foods she hadn't had in years as she headed toward the last place she'd seen Glenn, and sat down beside him when she found him.
"Hey," she said gently. "Any sign of Maggie yet?" Was it wrong to hope her sister showed up? Perhaps. But if she did, at least Beth would know she was just a little bit safer than wherever she was with the walkers.
