Of all the possible scenarios Amy had ever been in, of all the terrible things she’d gone through as a companion to the Doctor, she had always known that without fail, he and Rory would always come to her rescue. But this was not like the other times, and there was no Rory and there was no Doctor there to save her.
Well, not her Doctor at least, not the proper Doctor. The one who wore bowties and thought fezzes were an acceptable fashion statement. She had known he had different faces before, but she didn’t know that it was possible to find one of him that had no idea who she was. He was her best friend, her raggedy man. The thought that he didn’t know any of that...it stung.
It made the situation she was in worse, as she sat in the corner of the room with the little device, fumbling with the keys while occasionally freezing in place to listen for the sound of shuffling monster-nurses. Why did she think a hospital was a good hiding place? Maybe it was that she had decided that after their botched attempt to get to Ravenscala, a hotel was the last place to run to in the event of an emergency. Now, she was beginning to think she would have been better off risking another minotaur.
“Where are you?” she hissed to the device. Every single time she checked it, she was disappointed-- no Rory, no raggedy man. Just one stranger after another. It was the sound of a voice that caught her attention, and the words ‘Doctor’ made her quickly scramble to her feet. But as she firmly reminded herself that the voice didn’t belong to her Doctor, she still made for the door quickly and swung it open, immediately reaching out to pull him in by the collar of his jacket...which was much...longer than she had ever seen before.
“About time,” she said, though not with the intention of being ungrateful or callous toward him. It was jarring to see such a different face attached to the person she had so much believed in all the time, that she took the smallest of moment to stare at him before turning her attention to the rest of the room. It was one of the smaller rooms, probably reserved only for one patient, but there was no window.
