Leslie listened to Ben intently, blue eyes bright with wonder as she took in the story he was telling her. She ran, they broke up and were crazy, but she ran. She could only imagine how neurotic she had become during that time. Her friends probably hated her, but she knew they probably never left her side. Leslie understood how lucky she was to have such a dedicated group of friends.
She was smiling broadly at Ben, holding onto his knee as he continued to talk. Leslie could listen to his voice all day, and she sighed almost dreamily every so often. "I'm glad we got back together," she said to him before she laughed at herself. "Well of course we do because, duh, we're married. But..." she slowed down long enough to lean in and kiss him again. "You know what I mean. Life is just better with you in it."
Her eyes widened again when the implication of his words really hit her. She turned to face him, hands holding onto his tightly. "I won?" Leslie took a deep breath as her eyes began to well with tears. As much as she loved Ben, Leslie knew that her first love was politics. The idea that she could make a real difference in her town, in her country, was all she needed to pursue each step in her ultimate goal. Today Councilwoman Knope - tomorrow, the Presidency! Okay, she knew that it didn't work out like that exactly, but she could dream, right? All Leslie knew was that it was definitely the right step forward.
"That's amazing, Ben," she said to him. "I mean, I can believe it, but I can't believe it, you know?" She sighed wistfully. "Do I do a good job? I mean, do I make a difference?"
She shook her head at him then. "No, don't tell me. I want it all to be fresh and untainted," she said to him. "I can't wait to experience it all with you." Leslie snuggled into Ben, and sighed deeply. This was everything she could have wanted, even if it wasn't in Pawnee.
