Anna and Ariel, Gingers to the Death
"I could really use some cupcakes," Anna sighed, her arm slung across her belly because it was a ravaging beast. This whole however long stretch of days had been horrible - she just kind of wanted it to end, no matter in what way, because how could she predict when they'd finally be able to escape? Maybe they never would be. They'd just be rats constantly chasing themselves in a steel trap, over and over and over.
The thought of opening the doors made her stomach twist and turn. But she nodded resolutely, her opposite hand clinging tightly to Ariel's. "We're going to be friends forever, even when we get out of here," she said, and that was true. Now that Anna knew they were neighbors anyway, and that mermaids could easily travel between realms, they would definitely see each other again. "You can come to Arendelle, and we'll have all the chocolates and krumkake there that you can handle."
Thinking of sweets bolstered her confidence a bit, enough to take one handle while Ariel took the other. But when they opened the doors, blood poured from the ceiling and came at them in a torrential downpour, a gushing macabre wave. At least Anna was pretty sure it was blood. It smelled and tasted like iron, like the whole third floor, and she didn't know how to swim and she couldn't breathe, it was so sticky - it filled her open mouth quickly, and her last thought was that she hoped mermaids could breathe in blood too. Maybe Ariel would have a chance to escape.
