Beth and Loki - secret passage
Her eyes were fixed on the dark passage beyond the hidden door. Everything about it seemed to be telling her to turn around, to find the nearest room, and to hole up until this was over. And if it weren't for the weird noises, or the flickering lights, or the simple fact that she was stuck here, she might have done just that. But there was something going on in this hotel, and a part of Beth wanted to find out what.
She looked over at Loki, who had a light in his hand. The passage was dark -- and if she knew anything about horror movies, probably covered in spider webs, or worse. "You first," she said, pointedly eyeing the light in Loki's hand. She had a small knife at her belt, which she kept out of habit, and her hand went to it now. It was probably useless against disembodied beings, she realized, and that thought made her feel vulnerable, almost afraid. "I'll keep an eye out for anything following us."
The entire hotel seemed to be silent around them, as though it were waiting for them to make a decision. Briefly, she thought this must be what Nancy Drew felt like whenever she investigated an abandoned swamp boat, or an old museum. Nervous, a little bit spooked, yet alert. That is, if Nancy Drew had nearly died and woke up in a choose-your-own-adventure horror town. She was pretty sure that had never happened in any of the books.
