People seemed to make the mistake of assuming that James Barnes/Bucky/The Asset couldn't find them. First Lavender Brown, who seemed to think she was very well hidden until HYDRA took her away. And then Agent Orange, called Santana.
Maybe it was his face, but James Barnes/Bucky/The Asset wasn't nearly as incompetent as these girls seemed to think he was. What was perhaps more disconcerting was the propensity of teenage girls to be drawn to him as a friend--and wasn't that strange, that that bothered him? Was it supposed to bother him?
It didn't matter. None of it mattered, except that he should carry out his orders.
Santana was staying with Mercy Thompson, the karate girl with the sarcastic behaviour. They were a good fit. James Barnes/Bucky/The Asset had no trouble finding their residence. Easier still was slipping in the back door, silent as the grave.
That was the benefit of HYDRA training.
They had done well for him, and now he was expected to do the same. Wasn't this all one big training exercise? They had taken away his stressors, the tall woman with the lasso and the Widow. They had taken away the girl who called herself his friend. And they had left Agent Orange, who had not been disciplined for doing what she had no right to do.
So now he was going to do his job. He wouldn't give them another reason to find fault with him.
He slipped off his shirt, folded it neatly, and placed it right beside the door. He could barely hold back the snort at the idea that his not wearing a shirt would verify for her that he carried no weapons.
A brief flash of concern clouded his mind at the thought of someone seeing the scar tissue around the junction of his arm and shoulder, and he shook himself. It didn't matter. People saw him that way all the time. Why would it bother him now?
He slunk through the house until he found Santana, in her room. He slipped inside, closed the door behind him, and then said, "Agent Orange, I have arrived for my weekly report."
