He'd asked enough questions for the afternoon. His name was James Buchanan Barnes and he liked to be called Bucky. Liked to, or tolerated? bugged the tiny voice in the back of his mind. This was who he was before he was the Asset. This was the person who did not matter enough to withstand the training.
And now they were bringing it back? Yes. Very confusing. Agent Barnes adjusted his position on the couch, sinking back into it and taking a slow, subtly deep breath. But confusion was acceptable. The other asset had just said it. Surely he wouldn't try to trick him in front of Agent Jefferson?
"Thank you, sir," he said, even though he knew the asset didn't like to be called that. "I don't have any more questions." Not for the moment, anyway. He had to sort out what he'd already seen. Figure out who James Barnes was and why he didn't matter enough to be kept through the programming.
Had he been weak?
It didn't matter. Whatever he was before, they had remade him once. And they would remake him again, better than he'd ever been before.
