It was not a welcome thought to Agent Barnes that the incompetent agent would have forgotten to warn him explicitly about a duplicate. It was also not a welcome thought that this man was not the incompetent agent and that he might not have been allowed to know of Agent Barnes' orders, or that Agent Barnes even existed.
Agent Jefferson had been very clear with him on what his parameters for operation would be, and the subject of a duplicate incompetent agent had not been part of it. Agent Barnes was beginning not only to intensely dislike this place, but to actively hate it.
He made a fist of his left hand, felt the motion recalibrate its way up his arm.
"So you're Agent Clint's double," he said. The incompetent agent was called Clint; Agent Barnes would have to be sure of this before he called him that. He made a mental note to ask Agent Jefferson. Agent Jefferson was clearly better-informed than Agent Barnes and likely moreso than the incompetent agent. Most people in HYDRA were better-informed than Agent Barnes by necessity, but he found it oddly validating that Agent Jefferson would be given higher clearance than the incompetent agent. He would have to ask Agent Jefferson if he was considered the senior agent.
He let go of his fist. "And you're not part of his team. Is that right?"
