Rather than running about, the Doctor was practically stumbling through the streets with utter fascination. It felt like he'd regenerated, he knew the pain well. Burning right through the core of him, he should have woken up in that bed with a brand new face. Instead he had everything that connected him to the one he'd been so desperate to keep, everything but a blue box that could take him anywhere in time and space.
Certain his ship was around somewhere, he went looking rather than fuss over the note he'd stuffed into his pocket before departing. Those sirens were loud, ominous, and just the distraction he needed from the anguish he'd been leaving the world in. His eyes were tired and oddly still damp from that moment, ever the first to declare that it was time to go yet unwilling to do just that in the very end.
Coat flapping behind him as he ultimately broke into a run from some brilliant creature he let get too close, he ducked into an alley to take a moment and survey his surroundings. Nothing about this place struck him as familiar, and he'd been to the very end of the universe. It didn't look like a time stream, though time did feel especially strange to him now. Usually, he could see all that was, could be, and should not; things weren't quite so transparently convoluted presently.
A strange click-clack, click-clack sounded behind him and he turned to find a misshapen mass coming toward him. With a crinkled nose and brow, he observed it for a moment through dirtied lenses before deciding it was time to run, but then he heard running. The difference between human feet and that of the monstrosity threatening him was distinct.
Someone was in trouble. Darting back out, he nearly crashed right into the moving body. The darkened mist was certainly a hindrance, but the figure felt alive. "Sorry! Hold on--" Catching her by the arm, he spun about on his heel and turned to face the very last one he'd seen and it made him retract his grip and back up a step in utter disbelief.
"Can't be," he murmured. Never mind that creatures out for his blood and hers were on the painfully nearby prowl. He didn't have a clue where he was, but this certainly wasn't Pete's World. How could she be here? "It's not possible."
