"Okay, could you please not break him?" The key was figuring out how to draw Barnes outta this dude without Steve to be all puppy and stubborn and triggery, without getting all triggery in a bad way.
Technically, there was probably someone easier to convince to take Barnes in for a while, but Clint wasn't sure if he'd really like to leave crazy assassin trigger happy Barnes with any of them. For one thing, he didn't need to come back to a Barnes with braids, that was for sure.
Jefferson had been there longer than Clint, so presumably a little education in the Marrowood way of life couldn't hurt and at least the guy wasn't all touchy feely new age bullshit. "Face twins happen," Clint just shrugged, "Marrowood thing. So yeah....just don't break him. He's durable, but.... mind breaky is a no." And Clint could deal with figuring out how to un-brainwash.
"You just... listen to Jefferson and don't shoot anyone, remember, Agent Barnes, you answer to that, so if anyone asks...that's your name." Clint really wanted to repeat himself again but crap, that would just get redundant. He was likely going to live to regret this, but hell, options were kind of slim.
