He left when there was still sunlight because, although no one told him not to go outside at night, he had a feeling like it wouldn't be in his best interest to do so. The travel wasn't far, but it was long enough for him to recognize the kind of danger he could have been walking into. Sirius wasn't a stupid bloke. At least, he liked to believe as much, but meeting someone who claimed to know him from the future and, more than that, claimed to know Harry, was probably not one of his brighter ideas. He'd be stupid to not acknowledge the fact that this could very well be a trap, something set up by one or many of the various people who believed in his guilt.
There was nothing wrong with taking chances, even if you had to be cautious when you did so. The promise of knowledge about Harry and belief in his innocence was too much for Sirius to blatantly ignore, and it was only those two factors that had him standing before Hermione's door, hands buried deep within his pockets as he hesitantly shifted. Still time to turn back, he thought, shifting from one foot to the other. He then promptly told himself to grow a pair and pulled his hand from his pocket, knocking on the door solidly three rhythmic times.
He offered a smile when it opened, albeit a hesitant one. "Am I early?"
