There was something genuinely comforting about Emma not only listening to him, but giving it the serious consideration it deserved. She didn't treat him like he was insane or a child, and for that, Emma had earned a lot of respect from Stiles. She reminded him of Melissa McCall, in a way, except that Melissa was a lot quicker to say are you crazy. She was also a lot quicker to step back and realise that the boys were being serious. But it was nice to be taken seriously right from the get-go.
Nobody ever took Stiles Stilinski seriously.
"I know." Stiles gave her a weak imitation of his normal smile. "So does that mean I have the job?" He'd meant it to come off a little sarcastic, a little jokey, but the nervous edge to his voice made it more of a serious question than he'd intended. Besides, he kept hearing people needed jobs here. Jobs, and don't go near the forest, church, or hospital.
