"Okay, so, everybody has their own little group, right? So if everyone has their own little group, they've already got a natural leaning toward a leader. Clearly with your group, you're the leader. I'm willing to latch on and say you probably totally deserve the job. There are other groups like that. So let natural grouping do the work and let the leaders of the groups fall in and work together." Stiles paused, realising suddenly that he'd sort of rambled on. Right. Not helping at all, then. "Okay, alright, I get your point. Complicated."
He picked awkwardly at his fries, and did actually manage to get a few down before he opened his mouth again. Okay, so at least he could kind of keep his mouth closed for thirty seconds. That was always an achievement.
"Um.. here." He dusted his hands quickly on a paper napkin and lurched up to pull his book out of his backpack. It was old, though not so old you had to wonder if the leather-bound cover was animal leather or if it could possibly have been one of those really creepy books bound up in human skin. Not that Stiles would have been surprised to find a serious bestiary with actual notes bound in human skin. He flopped it down on the desk, between food and coffee.
"This is my monster manual. It's actually just a bullshit bestiary. Most of the stuff in here isn't even useful, but some of it is." He flipped open to a page on werewolves, which was neatly typeset and contained a pair of nice, though slightly incongruous, line drawing illustrations. This was one of the heaviest pages in the book for notes. All over it, Stiles' handwriting was cramped in margins, between lines, anywhere there was space. He pointed to one, where he'd underlined a section expounding upon the making of a werewolf, which was a long and complex process involving--depending upon one's nationality--a curse, a death, or a murder. Beside it, his note said, Seriously why did I even choose this book, which he had crossed out and replaced with you get bit by an A, you become a ww, but surviving is not 100%.
He cleared his throat. "Okay, that wasn't helpful, but--I updated it. All the way through. And in the back is the page I wrote on possession."
