Parker looked around too, as the women entered, automatically counting off the people inside and noting the exit at the rear of the restaurant. No security cameras, nothing but the most basic of locks not the doors. Either there was little crime in Marrowood, or something else kept people from trying to rob the restaurant.
At least whatever was following them out in the street hadn't come inside.
It registered as odd to Parker that the employees of the restaurant didn't seem to actually be working, but the rest -- the flat voices and the dead stares -- went right over Parker's head.
"Do you take AmEx?" she asked, reading the menu. Her stomach grumbled just thinking about food and a piece of pizza ... Oh, right. The kid.
"Oh, I'm with her." Parker tilted her head to indicate Lisa. "Looking for Ben."
"Restaurant is for patrons only." The employee behind the counter turned his back on them and Parker looked at Lisa, shrugging. Ben wasn't here now, and if he'd been here before, no one was telling.
