The drainage pipe made perfect sense to Parker. Marrowood was a spooky place. Ben was a kid. Kids got scared. Scared people try to hide. A storm drain was a good hiding spot. Well, a decent hiding spot, anyway, as long as you weren't being followed. These were important considerations.
At Lisa's question, Parker laughed -- just once, with a loud, "Ha!" A passing resident twitched and actually looked their way, and Parker covered her mouth with her hand and shook her head. "No, I don't have kids." She'd rescued a group of them from a shady Serbian orphanage once, luring them away, despite the language barrier, with the promise of Hagen Dazs. She was pretty sure that didn't count, though.
