Parker didn't know why she'd volunteered to help Lisa look for her son. Talking to people was Sophie's area of expertise, or Nate's. She was only really good at one thing, and it wasn't finding wayward sons and comforting worried mothers. But it was what the others members of the team would have done, probably, if they were trapped in a horror-movie town by themselves and someone needed help.
As much as she didn't like leaving her climbing rig behind, Parker didn't have any convenient way to transport it yet. She needed a duffle bag of some kind, big enough for her whole kit but small enough to carry with her. The first thing she'd done while exploring the town had been to look for a safe place to stash her belongings, but there was more than a little bit odd about Marrowood. And nowhere seemed secure enough for her liking. Might as well leave it under the bed with the shadowy red-eyed creature that liked to growl whenever she laid down on the mattress.
Parker had named him George.
Walking along with Lisa, Parker kept her senses open, scanning for trouble as they walked. She tried to form a mental picture from the description of Ben. Tall like Hardison, probably a brunette like Lisa. Parker waved to a dead-eyed elderly woman they passed along the way, but got no response. Old bat.
"So what's his favorite food? Candy or pizza or something like that? We should start wherever he would start."
