Maybe that was the point of it, sometimes you just needed someone to be selfish for you. All her life people had given up for her own good -she'd been sent through from their home for her own sake, to save her, to save everyone. But she was the one left alone. Neal had left her for her own good, so that she could achieve her destiny, and she was left alone again. She was constantly the one being left alone for her own good.
Maybe she needed someone who would say screw it, and stick by her, regardless of what the easier route was. She had the feeling that Jefferson understood that better than most, being alone, not wanting to be on her own all the time.
