What Emma was learning was that magic was wholly different from anything she thought she knew. She'd never been comfortable with Regina, never considered learning from Gold, she knew that in time she'd trust Regina and start to learn, but the information was just in her head, she couldn't really remember doing it. The odd little way this place worked and all.
She knew that Garrett's magic was utterly different from hers, but she could learn with direction, pushing what she could feel through her to make something similar to him. The magic reacted to her, presumably it would react to other things she tried.
"I suppose reanimating corpses isn't really the most useful anyway, I mean, you'd need to be around corpses to reanimate, and then they'd need to dig out. Spirits makes much more sense." And from what Emma knew of spirits here, they were much stronger than you'd think. It sounded like the Maker was a sort of God in their world -she'd heard Hawke use it like a curse, so that made sense, "So, past ... people, helping current people? Sort of like calling a guardian?" Using the magic to make a weapon from something that existed.
It was exceptionally interesting, more so than arrest records of people that she wasn't even sure existed at all.
"So, you don't need to have like some kind of special talent or connection to learn that?" It seemed really intricate. "I'm not entirely sure that my form of magic is the same as yours or Garrett's." For one thing, she only found out about it at twenty-eight.
