Falling into step with Owen, the boy and the dog started up the empty street at a cautious pace that gave Ken time to observe everything. His dark eyes scanned each building and alley and obstruction as he listened to the older man talk and he didn't even bother to glance down at Koromaru, who had gone silent by now apart from the light tapping of padded toes and trimmed claws on pavement, before he answered the question. His partner knew what to do and he understood far more than most people seemed to realize. "Slow and quiet," he agreed, "Yeah. We can do that." For a moment, he lapsed into full silence. He hefted his spear from his shoulder, twirling it neatly around and catching the upper section of the shaft so that he was holding the weapon with two hands instead of one. It gave him a better grip and more options in a fight; he wanted to be prepared. Finally, he said, keeping his voice low, "ええと...Do you know anything else about them? I've never seen a real zombie before. Only the kind in manga." A touch of embarrassment flickered across his face and he almost cringed at the stupid words that had just come out of his mouth, but it was too late to take them back now. Instead, he finished lamely, "And I haven't even read those in a while." |
