Years of training and service had Owen a master at observation. He could tell Ken was pensive, not at all in a trusting state of mind, or ease. Rightfully so--they were surrounded by who knew what that was trying to swallow their souls? He wanted to help and the adults were trying to keep him safe and not taking him seriously. A true hardship in the life of a growing boy.
So naturally he was patient. Smile still on his face, Owen shifted in his stance, still keeping his sense alert for their surroundings. "Kid, you read my mind. I was actually working on making sure the streets were clear before Claire told me to find you. There's still a section over on this side of the city that needs to be checked out, and then we need to make sure the safe zones are being protected."
