In the Eye of a Hurricane
WHO: Hawke & Emma
WHEN: Sunday afternoon
WHERE: Fairytale House
WHAT: Hawke checking up on his wayward apprentice after dark times.
RATING/WARNINGS: Hawke tends to swear.
STATUS: In Progress
It took some time for him to feel safe leaving Killian alone. He trusted his lover wouldn't suddenly turn evil again but he didn't trust this world not to take him away again. It was still somewhat surprising to wake up each morning and find his lover still there. With his mind slightly at ease he could turn it to other problems.
Sam was apparently possessed or cursed. Hawke was going to confront him another time, though people were counting on him to figure that out. He couldn't linger for too long on taking action there. Another poor bastard from Thedas was here though the elf seemed to be adapting well. He wanted to check in with Emma first, though. His wayward apprentice had been through quite the horror while possessed. He went to see her at her home while the sun was shining brightly in the afternoon.
There was a sense of failure when he looked at Emma. He had seen the potential for this when her powers grew and she treated them like a toy instead of something to be respected. Those who didn't have the proper respect for magic inevitably fell to the darker temptations that great power presented. He couldn't help but think that if he had trained her better, been tougher on her or some such nonsense she wouldn't have tried what she did.
He sat down and waited for her to join him. She looked like she carried the scars only dark magic could leave, a wariness around her eyes and a weight on her shoulders. She was kicking herself when she was down. They might have more in common than just magic.
"So, I was very, very angry at you for quite some time," he said calmly, with an easy smile. "If you want to dabble in dark magic and make deals with demons you go right ahead even though that was a horrible idea, but dragging Killian into your nonsense really just pissed me off. In the end, though, it seems like you came to your senses and realized what a bleeding idiot you were."
Hawke would not be one to coddle. He had warned her of the temptation that came with manipulating reality itself. Dark magic, though, could be more tempting than anything else when someone wanted to accomplish their goals. He had been tempted but he had never fallen, not like her.
"Why I'm here is to make sure we continue your training. You've already learned the hard lesson of dark magic so there's nothing else there I can teach you but control and respect of your powers is what we need to work on. You cannot run from them, they are part of you. So, when would you like to begin again?"
