They weren't petted a lot. It just wasn't something that happened. Their contact with their humans had been largely limited once they were somewhat bigger. They knew the somewhat calming touch of their humans, Alpha was the only one she'd permitted to touch her, the only one she didn't growl at. But she knew that they weren't meant to interact like that.
But she would reinforce his scent, and make sure she carried his, they would solidify their territory and Blue would make sure that no other pack infringed on that in their area. Anyone trying anything would need to take down the Alpha to do it, and if they tried that, she'd be there to stop them.
The low, steady stream of the alpha's voice was enough to calm Blue for now. She wouldn't hunt for now, not if that wasn't what they were doing, but she'd secure things. Yeah, she'd take care of that. Her head tilted to the side, a questioning whine coming from her as the alpha appeared to question something herself.
She didn't mind the distance, not really. She had her own space, her own nest and den. It was a small patch of territory that was hers. And she understood why, because the humans lived in buildings and Blue really didn't like those too much -they cut off the smells, they muffled the sounds, it was like putting your head in a stream. But humans needed them, and Blue could still help defend the area.
