As brave as the two women were attempting to be with their words and their steps forward into the darkness they were still feeding into each others' fears. Their hands were bound tightly around one another, and their hearts were racing in their chest. Adrenaline was pumping in through their body, and there was little doubt that the pair would be ready to run if it came to that.
But Leslie was not going to scared away so easily. This hospital was easy peasy compared to the one in Marrowood, and it didn't have a crazy staff that was trying to do experiments on you. At least that was the story she heard, and all the reason why she stayed away from that place. But Grim was different, and this hospital was different, and Leslie was sure that wherever Ann decided to work that her presence automatically made it one-hundred percent brighter.
"Ann, you're brilliant!" Leslie turned to hold her best friend on the shoulders. "A list is exactly what we need! I mean I didn't bring a notepad or a pen, but between you and I we should be able to remember everything." She smiled brightly, and had all but forgotten about the flickering light mostly because it had stopped flickering altogether. A steady light streamed down the hallway, and whatever darkness there was had vanished. For the moment, at least.
Ann's "funny" story wasn't funny at all, but Leslie couldn't blame Ann for it. She took a deep breath and looked at her friend. "That's not really funny, Ann, but I don't blame you. You're too beautiful to be funny and you've never had to compensate for anything." She stroked her friend's cheek lovingly, and then smiled as if she was looking at an adorable puppy because Ann was equally (if not more) cute. "C'mon, we'll find the nurses station," Leslie said confidently, and this time looped her arm around Ann's elbow. With the hallway bright and open Leslie felt like nothing could stop her.
Until she heard what sounded like a squeaky wheelchair in the distance, and the sound of laughter. The creepy kind of laughter that she heard in scary movies. This was not good.
