The flickering light of Emma's magic was the least of their worries. Robert was thankful for what the woman could do, and the little bit of light she did provide was enough to get them down the stairs. But the shift was unexpected, and Robert's heart threatened to jump out of his chest with each new obstacle they faced. He wasn't exactly built for this kind of physical activity, but did it anyway because he did not fancy dying again in this place.
Roles reversed as they made it to the bottom as Emma began to tug on his arm. The hallway was crumbling around them, and their feet were not as agile in the midst of the rubble. Robert coughed as drywall powdered around them, and the teeth - by God, the teeth! - they seemed to be getting closer and closer. He no longer knew where they were in the hallway, the destination seemed less important than actually getting away from the danger.
The hallway descended on itself behind them, and though they were close to one of the unblocked doors at the end of the hall Robert feared they wouldn't make it. He didn't hear the sound of the monstrous beast chomping after them, but the sound of a building falling around them was just as frightening. When he looked up to assess the situation he saw a beam falling from its supports.
"Watch out!" Robert took that moment to shove Emma out of the way before the beam hit the both of them.
