It wasn't the right kind, none of it was familiar either, she'd checked, it was damp and strange, held odd smells. But there was enough of it, and it got thicker further in, so she was confident that she'd manage to settle herself and not be seen by anyone, if she could hide from Alpha then she'd be easily concealed from all the pets.
Pets tended not to look in the less obvious places. They liked to look by their own feet, or their faces. Blue was better at hunkering in less obvious spaces, out of the eye line, or covered well enough to be passed over. Easier in foliage that accounted for her colouring, but not impossible here.
There were downed trees, some trunks split and braced on each other leading to a few higher perches. Not that Blue was crazy about going up high -it was more difficult to blend, even if it wasn't always easy to spot. And escape or a quick shift down from the perch. She could leap, but it was usually dangerous without a proper consideration for the area.
She didn't like this area.
Along the path, outside of the initial trail that was beaten down by the herds, Blue ducked under a few trees, finding some over grown bushes, one tasted odd on her tongue, sharp and bristly, not something to sit against at all, so she kept moving, finding some moss and bark. It was easy to break off some branches to drop to the side, providing more cover. She could hide out there. It was covered and deep enough in to avoid much in the way of passing people catching sight.
Although why the pets would bother, Blue didn't know.
