Robert had been fascinated with magic since he (and Rosalind) were introduced to it. The seemingly simple act of manipulating the forces around one's self was incredible, and Robert was only a tiny bit envious that they had such power. He imagined of all the mysteries he'd be able to uncover with it, and perhaps use that knowledge to tie it to science.
But that was not important at that moment. Emma had used her magic to give them some light in the barely lit space. It helped them to maneuver a little bit easier over the rubble, and hopefully farther away from the dinosaur outside. Robert hoped that the creature would grow tired with its attempts and leave them alone, but it was relentless and Robert feared the worst.
Robert steadied himself when he felt Emma's hand on his shoulder. He didn't want to fall and take her with him, and when he apologized he simply shook his head. "No need to apologize," he said to her. "I'd much rather you hang onto me than to fall."
He listened for anything other than the constant din of the creature's roar outside. The stairs creaked, and moaned under the increasing weight of the building that was collapsing, but it was holding together at the moment. He didn't even hear the sound of any other dinosaurs in the area, and he imagined it was because not a single one of them wanted to be in the vicinity of the "big one".
"I think the downstairs is safe," he said. "We're almost there." The building began to buckle even more, though, as they continued to descend. The spinosaur had no mercy as it tore and bit to find something to snack on, and before they reached the bottom the entire staircase began to sway as its foundation crumbled. Robert grabbed Emma's hand and pulled her faster down the stairs.
