It was hard, almost impossible not to let the idea she was stuck here in this strange place without her family well up to something overwhelming enough to have her a complete, blubbering mess – Leslie was the glue right now and Ann just let her go on talking, keeping her eyes on her best friend.
Ann still didn't quite have words, mostly because she was trying not to fall in a loop of repeating how insane this all was, so she nodded slowly, biting her lower lip; a sort of thanks. Her silence didn't mean she wasn't being genuine, she had faith in Leslie, as intense as she could be at times, Ann trusted her implicitly; she was the most thoughtful, kind and supportive person Ann knew. As wrong as being here seemed already, Leslie was right, this is what they did for one another and Ann would, once her head stopped spinning, hold up her end of the deal too.
"I know." She murmured into Leslie's shoulder, which was in part to remind herself it was true, holding tight for a moment, Ann her eyes sting as she drew away from the hug. Determined to just keep the conversation moving for now, from anything but home, she forced a concerned sort of half-smile. “Next doozy?” As if trying to push her mind away from thoughts of what was left behind, she encouraged Leslie, nodding. "Okay-" She heaved out a breath, as if to bolster herself a little.
