It was a bad habit of Spencer's to get lost in thought and completely ignore his surroundings. His friends at the BAU often took those opportunities to sneak up on him at his desk. It was better when he was out in the field, and his focus was solely on the case at hand, but here he didn't have that luxury. He didn't even hear the door to the Sheriff's station open, and so when the woman spoke he jumped in his chair a bit.
He looked up, and smiled sheepishly at the blonde as he tucked a loose bit of hair behind his ear. "Um hello," he stammered before he sat a little more upright in his chair. "Right yes, the beginning." He chuckled a bit, and twirled the pencil idly in between his fingers.
"That is the most logical place. I was simply, uh, just trying to figure out how to get started doing..." he trailed off and looked around at the empty station that was void of work. "Well, just doing work I guess. Help out, you know." He bobbed his head slowly, and a bit awkwardly before his tongue came out discreetly to lick his lower lip. Meeting new people was always hard for Spencer, especially people that he would probably end up working or spending time with. And with a town as small and restricted as Marrowood he imagined that he would be meeting and working with everyone.
He stood to his feet, and held out his hand toward Jeanette. "Doctor Spencer Reid," he said in introduction. He wasn't big on hand shaking either, but he wanted to be polite. "And I enjoy the culmination of a good story, but also the journey to that end. Don't you?"
