The name, which contradicted the nametag that Hermione could read quite clearly, caused her to raise her eyebrows in surprise. She wasn't a stranger herself to giving a fake name herself, but had rarely experienced it in others. "Not Anna?" she asked before she could stop herself, even though there was so much more to react and answer.
1893, that was much earlier than Hermione's own birth year of 1979. Nearly a century of difference. It wouldn't have occurred to her to ask about alternate universes, just to confirm. After all, magic was meant to be secret from Muggles, so Elizabeth's ignorance of that wouldn't have been a signifier of her being from elsewhere or elsewhen. But the 'where you're from,' that gave her an inkling of the concept and she answered in kind.
"Yes, but only a minority of the population has it and we're meant to keep it entirely secret." This felt so wrong, talking to someone so frankly about it. "Countries and regions have their own schools for magic. Mine was started by four founders, who split the responsibility of teaching -- that's why we do the sorting."
Once her brief explanation was out of the way, Hermione followed it up with her own question. "Is there anything in Marrowood - supernatural elements notwithstanding - that you did not have in your world?"
