"Perhaps there is something sentient in the fog that can read human brain waves?" James suggested. "Or any brain waives," he amended, realizing the Doctor was not exactly human. When he and Holmes had done their reconnaissance, they'd remarked that fog had possessed a sentient quality. That would explain a lot.
"But since there are two of us, it will have to choose, since we share no common memories. At least none before we arrived. I imagine that's possible, but I suspect a selection will be made, and then...." Then who knew what would happen. Personally, there were memories that were not fit to be shared with anyone, things he'd done in the line of duty.
But somehow he suspected there was no controlling it. However, he could blank his mind, and the fog-like creature, or whatever it was, would have nothing to see from him. Assuming that was how it worked.
