Game In Review: August 1 - August 10, 1997 (2009)
Game In Review: August 1 - August 10, 1997 (2009)
Pregame - July 27th: Harry and the Order are attacked while moving Harry to The Burrow. In the ensuing battle Moody, Hagrid, and Hedwig fall to the Killing Curse. Later, at the Burrow, Fred has to deal with the fact that George was almost killed, and Remus and Tonks reconcile while mourning Moody.
August 1: Wished begins with an article in the Daily Prophet which reports Dumbledore's retirement but misreports the deaths of Professors Hagrid and Burbage as retirements as well. This article also lists the forced retirement of Professor Binns, and his replacement by Radolphus Pittiman. The same morning, Hogwarts Owls deliver letters and reading lists to all returning students from the new Headmistress. These owls also bring journals to every student that will be a required part of next year's curriculum. These owls also carry letters for next year's Prefects and Quidditch captains, and Harry and Hermione turn down their respective positions as Quidditch Captain and Head Girl. The positions are then offered to Ginny and Padma. Ginny doesn't celebrate and is not having the most interesting summer, but Padma is pleased. Meanwhile, mysterious deliveries cause havok for various people and prompt Penny to visit Oliver. In Diagon Alley, Theodore Nott annoys Draco by following him and being clever. At The Burrow, the Trio have an argument after Hermione returns from Obliviating her parents, and later Dumbledore arrives in order to give them a few mysterious, but important, gifts.
Later, Harry begins a trend of badmouthing the Prophet that will be continued by other students soon after. Mandy sends lemon squares to Seamus. For the WWW it is business as usual. Various students and adults respond to the news of the day and to the changes at Hogwarts. It seems many are also going stir crazy. But there is some cause for celebration as Alicia is accepted into the Auror training program. In the evening, Fred visits Alicia and baby Ryan to celebrate this news before Alicia heads out drinking with Katie and Angela and ends up running in to Adrian Pucey.
August 2: Charlie Weasley sends owls to his siblings and gets disturbing news back. Remus reports to the Order that he can no longer stay on his assignment with the werewolves. Students and adults alike are still responding to the recent news, and in doing so Draco decides that he needs to speak with Snape, and the WWW decides to have a sale. In the evening, Angelina comes over to visit and drink with George.
August 3: Students deal with recent news and the boredom of the summer hols in various ways. It seems that these summer holidays have left parents more paranoid than in last years, and so many students are finding themselves restricted. Most notably, Wayne, who gets himself hurt. Meanwhile, Katie, Angelina, and Alicia are dealing with the repurcussions of their night out drinking, as is Adrian. Penny philosophizes on Minstry coffee and Roger Davies is as full of himself as ever which prompts many comments and much mockery. And Hermione writes to the DA but they are generally not happy about being kept in the dark.
August 4: Reflecting on the news he received from Fred, Charlie decides to come home for a bit and asks for his time off. Susan Bones has inherited her aunt Amelia's papers.
Meanwhile, Katie gets around, making plans to drink with George and also sending gifts and apologies to Roger, who is getting around with Angelina. Alicia has made the mistake of leaving her journal around, and her son Ryan draws a bit in it, forcing mum to have a meeting with Adrian to discuss him, but not before she terrifies Fred
At least people have found things like the Men of Quidditch calendar to keep themselves entertained.
August 5: The Men of Quidditch calendar continues to entertain, though some students and adults prefer shopping to cure boredom. Though a random run in between Julien Dorny and Alfie Cattermole while Alfie is working at his grandparents provides some entertainment. The new Hogwarts Headmistress is busy a well, setting up a meeting with Tonks. Meanwhile, Hermione is very interested in the papers of Amelia Bones that Susan has inherited, and makes plans to come over and look through them. Other students are still responding to the changes at Hogwarts, and DA members are anxious for real news. Responding badly to Alicia's news, Adrian goes drinking with Roger.
Late in the evening, Rabastan and Alecto appear in Diagon Alley causing havok in Flourish & Blotts before snatching their targets, Madam Edgecombe and her daughter Marietta. In the process, one Auror is killed, one is left Crucioed and unable to talk, and one - blamed for the whole thing - is Imperioed and will take his own life later while in custody.
August 6: The Daily Prophet reports on the attack in Diagon. It accurately reports the sighting of Rabastan, but blames the death of the Auror later in the evening on the Auror Rabastan Imperioed. Also, it misreports the snatching of the Edgecombes. Early in the morning, Hermione visits Susan and is able to go through the papers of Amelia Bones and also clue Susan in to some things that have happened. Students respond to the news of the day, and many DA members are frustrated by the continued warnings about the Prophet while they still are being kept in the dark.
Alecto begins to use the journal that Rabastan stole from Flourish & Blotts for her, and Remus urges the Order to action. Meanwhile, Fleur worries about the wedding, and plans to put Ginny in a dress that is not pink and frilly, much to the twins' dismay, and Alicia needs her friends following her revelation to Adrian. Also, Headmistress McGonagall meets with Tonks and offers her her old position teaching Transfiguration.
August 7: Students continue to respond to the Death Eater attack in Diagon Alley, and many parents will not allow students to do their school shopping at Diagon themselves this year. Draco reflects on his current situation, while Ron becomes annoyed at the DA. Rabastan begins using the journal he stole from Flourish & Blotts. Meanwhile, Penny considers moving in with Oliver, prompting hilarity.
August 8: Many students and adults comment on recent news and activities and also on the general summer malaise. It seems Angelina is planning some sort of Quidditch mashup that Roger asks her about. Padma steals candy from Parvati to send to Michael.
Tonks reveals her Transfiguration position to the Order. Meanwhile, Narcissa worries about the state of her home and her family, and it becomes clear that many familes are worried about school shopping and the upcoming year. But Alicia, Angelina, and Katie have a party in the vening because everyone needs to unwind and finally celebrate Alicia's Auror acceptance.
August 9: Charlie awkwardly congratulates Tonks, and later is asked to Hogwarts by the new Headmistress. Visiting friends Alfie Cattermole and Audrey Wadcock talk about the dark times and also have ice cream. Alecto is bored, which is never good for muggles. She uses this boredom to go hunting for Hermione's parents, and murders their neighbors when she realizes that Hermione has anticipated this attack and sent her parents away.
August 10: Seamus goes to visit Dean and doesn't screw up the apparation, and many students are anxious to return to Hogwarts. Remus is surprisingly happy, however. Lucius is as concerned as his wife about the Death Eaters taking over his home, and Alecto reports that Hermione was a step ahead of them and had already sent her parents off where they can't be found.
Some Modly Notes
Please check out the list of incomplete threads and, if the thread is finished, change the tag to complete. Also, there are a few open threads which people can still jump in on: Vicki: in Diagon Alley before the Rabastan's apparance there. Katie: in Diagon Alley? before the Rabastan's apparance there.
Remember that these recaps are for the game as a whole. If you're interested in just the metaplot aspects there is a reference here that will chart just those things that happen to affect the overarching plots of the game. It hasn't been updated yet, but will be soon.
Hopefully I listed everything that has happened over the (very busy) opening of the game, but if I missed something that you want included please comment!
